program overview
The Metalworkers

or five unemployed blow a march against tristesse

Five recently unemployed metal workers worried about the futures of their lives and families meet by chance.

Boredom leads them to rummage through a pile of metal and what do they discover? The so-called junk rings, dings, and sings. They can even make real musical instruments from the scrap metal.

The first sounds out of theses “stove pipes” are produced with the help of the audience which the working men in the blue overalls have to recruit to figure out how to build instruments on their own. After discovering how to use a mouthpiece, the five quickly find that every instrument has its own individual sound. Each one of them introduces his instrument with a solo. And then something wonderful happens: suddenly they play together. It’s a new experience that inspires everyone. Quickly they decide to perform together as a band from now on. And since all five worked with metal in their former jobs, it doesn’t take long for them to find the name of the band: The Metalworkers!
